BNSF Railway Named a Top Military-Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs

FORT WORTH, Texas, Dec. 4, 2008:

BNSF Railway Company ranked number two in G.I. Jobs magazine’s annual listing of the Top 50 Military-Friendly Employers. This is the fourth consecutive year BNSF – the top-ranked transportation company for 2008 - has made the list.

"Those who wear our nation's uniforms are mission-focused, highly skilled, motivated and possess unique experiences and technical knowledge," said Matt Rose, BNSF chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Military candidates embody the core competencies of BNSF: leadership, teamwork, and the ability to perform safely in a fast-paced, dynamic environment."

Twenty-two percent of 2008 applicants hired by BNSF were veterans and, since 2005, BNSF has hired more than 3,000 former armed services members.

"It is an honor for us to support the men and women who have given so much to this country," said John Wesley, military staffing manager for BNSF. "We work hard to actively recruit armed service members in transition from the military to civilian work as well as those who have part-time commitments such as the Army Reserves."

BNSF offers enhanced and extended benefits for employees called to active duty, including make-whole pay and continued health care. In addition, the company offers 15 days of make-whole pay for annual training and drill duty. More than 100 BNSF employees are serving on active duty and approximately 1,000 employees have been activated since Sept. 11, 2001.
